NATICK: Frederick W. “Fred” Lundy, 87, died peacefully surrounded by the care and comfort of his family on Sunday afternoon, June 12, 2011 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Waltham on August 15, 1923 the son of the late Cecil J. Lundy and Nettie Doris (Shorey) Lundy.
Fred is survived by his devoted and loving children: Janet Trombley and her husband David of Hudson, James Lundy of Foxborough and John Lundy and his wife Yvette of Framingham. Cherished grandfather of Robert Long of Yarmouth; April Sidwell of KY; Sarah Lundy of Holliston; Anthony Lundy of Marlborough; Monique Lundy of Framingham and the late Joseph Lundy. Great-grandfather of Matthew and Kevin Sidwell of KY; Joe Lundy of Hopkinton, Bobby Long, Jr of Hudson and the late Heather Sidwell. Fred is also the great-great-grandfather of Fury and Ryder Sidwell of KY. Also survived by his sister Vera Hamilton of Watertown and several nieces and nephews.
Fred has been a resident of Natick for over 58 years and spent his earlier years in Waltham. He was a graduate of Waltham High School with the Class of 1941 and served his country proudly as a Sergeant with the United States Army during World War II. He began his career with Phil Pagliazo of Waltham as a bulldozer operator and he retired after over 25 years as bulldozer operator for Howard Blades Construction Co. in Framingham. Upon his retirement, he worked for the Town of Natick at the Landfill with the Recycling Department. On weekends he could be found operating Olympic Rubbish Disposal of which he was the proud owner. He has been a longtime member of the Community United Methodist Church of Cochituate where he volunteered for many church activities and served as an usher for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Mens Club of CUMC. He will be lovingly remembered by his family as the Master of duct tape and for his invention of the “shovel cane”. Fred touched many lives during his 87 years and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitations will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Cochituate.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 10:00 am.
Interment will follow in the Lundy family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in Fred’s memory may be sent to Brookhaven Hospice, 6 Beech St, Framingham, MA 01702.
