Obituary

Alice J. (Hannigan) O’Regan, 74, a resident of Franklin for the past 45 years, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Summerville at Farm Pond Assisted Living Facility in Framingham. She was the wife of Francis X. O’Regan, Jr. who died in 1997.

Born in Panama on May 30, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Agnes E. (McDade) Hannigan.

Mrs. O’Regan graduated from Cristobal High School in the Panama Canal Zone. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Education from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from Framingham State University.
Before her retirement in 1995, she was a guidance counselor at Millis High School and was also formerly a teacher at Millis High School and Stoughton High School.

Mrs. O’Regan was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in Franklin and was a member of the choir and Catholic Women's Club. She was also a former member of the church choirs at St. Thomas' Parish in Millis and St. Jerome’s Parish in Largo, FL.

Prior to becoming ill, Mrs. O’Regan was a member of the Dedham Choral Society and the Franklin softball and bowling leagues. She volunteered for Reading for the Blind and enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by two sons, Francis X. O’Regan, III of Charlton and Joseph C. O’Regan of Westford, two daughters, Elizabeth O. Bailey of Mendon and Margaret Hennessy of Medway and ten grandchildren.

She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Ann Modoono of Lexington, Diane Moran of Brockton and Patricia Hannigan, Esq. of Wilmington, DE, a brother Joseph Hannigan of Seminole, FL and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was the sister of the late Dorothy Hannigan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, April 16 from 9 – 10:30 a.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts St., Suite 450, Newton, MA 02458 or to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 331 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
