Obituary

Gordon H. Ferreira 70, of Provincetown, died Thursday March 10, 2011 following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Beverly A. (Cook) Ferreira.to whom he was married for 50 years. Born in Boston on May 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Jessie and Rosemarie (Dears) Ferreira. He was a fixture in the Provincetown community as a businessman and as a generous supporter of charitable and civic organizations. He graduated from Provincetown high school and following in his father's footsteps he became a barber. They worked together for about 5 years in a shop on Commercial St. In 1965 he bought the Yankee Clipper barber shop in Wellfleet which he operated until 1976. In 1973, he and his wife Beverly owned and operated Stormy Harbor restaurant in Provincetown which they owned until 1995. When he was seventeen, just like his father, he became a member of the Provincetown Fire Dept. where he volunteered for 21 years. During that time he was a member of the Provincetown rescue squad. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish, a member of St. Peter's club and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Walter Welsh Council 2476. He was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Provincetown Lions club. He was on the board of the Lower Cape Ambulance and served as a member of the Provincetown board of health.

Although his family and friends were a constant source of joy and comfort, his fulfillment came from quietly serving people in need through his Church or civic affiliations.
Besides his beloved friend and wife, he is survived by two of his children, Kevin Ferreira of Provincetown and Tracy Rose and her husband Leo of Truro their 4 grandchildren, Eve, Holly, Simone and Leo Rose and his sister Arlene Whittaker of Brockton. In 2009 he and his wife suffered the inconsolable loss of their beloved daughter Holly who had been sick for most of her adult life.

A Concelebrated Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, March 17, at 11:00AM in St. Peter the Apostle Church 11 Prince St. Provincetown. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5-8PM at the Gately – McHoul Funeral Home 94 Harry Kemp Way Provincetown.
