Obituary

Jack (John R.) Hickey, 58, beloved son, brother, and friend passed away on January 13, 2011, while vacationing in Florida. A long time resident of Boulder, Colorado, he is survived by his mother Margaret E. (Coulthard) Hickey of Greenville, RI, a daughter, Caitlin (Osso) Girouard of Pawtucket, brother, Bill Hickey of Greenville, RI, a sister, Kathleen Wilkinson of Attleboro, MA, a sister, Joanne Allred of Rangely, Colorado, a brother, Jim Hickey of Maryland and many nephews and nieces.
He was the son of the late John R. Hickey.

Originally from Rhode Island, Jack received his masters degree from the University of Rhode Island. He then moved to Boulder and became an accomplished geologist most recognized for his expertise on the Morrow formation. He discovered and produced many natural gas wells for major Colorado oil and gas producers, including his own companies, JR Exploration, and Wolf Exploration, Inc., both based in Boulder.

Jack, a longtime supporter of Special Olympics, also enjoyed sharing time with his friends on the golf course, and especially with his nephews and nieces at family gatherings. Jack had a passion for wildlife and the environment. Two of the highlights of his life were a camera safari to Africa and a geological expedition in the Peruvian Andes mountains. He will be truly missed by those of us lucky enough to befriend him.

May he rest in peace.
