New Bedford – Marcelino Vasques, aged 96, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Maria (Faria) Vasques. He was the loved father of Manuel Vasques of Lawrence, Carlos Vasques of São Miguel, Açores, Maria Vasques of Lisbon, Rui Vasques, Jorge Vasques, Maria Manuela Palhota, Maria A. Vasques, Carlos Vasques , Lucia Leblanc, Antonio Vasques, Paul Vasques, Kathleen Lopez and John Vasques. He was the father of the late Jose Antonio Vasques and Baby Vasques. Marcelino was the brother of Antonio Rubin, Manuela Silva and Isilda Florentino all of Providence, RI. and Helena Vasques of Faial, Açores. He is also survived by 25 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Vasques was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Rubin Vasques He was born in Lisbon, Portugal and has lived in this area since 1960. Marcelino was a retired Chute Man working at Tichon Seafood. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local # 59. He was an avid Red Sox fan and was a great Pastry Chef, who was famous for his homemade Portuguese Bread.
Mr. Vasques’ Funeral will be at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. Saturday, September 25, at 7:45 A.M. with a Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:45 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 P.M.
