Vera C. Pitts, 99, of Sandown, NH died Friday August 6, 2010 at Exeter Healthcare, Exeter, NH. Vera was born in Somerville, MA on August 2, 1911, daughter of the late Benjamin and Lillian (Drew) Adams. She had resided in Sandown since 1976, formerly living in Millis, MA, where she had been a member of the Millis School Board. She was a longtime member of the East Hampstead Union Church, E. Hampstead, NH. Vera had also volunteered with the original Derry-Salem Hospice in Derry, NH.
She is survived by her two sons, Charles V. O'Neill of Yuma, AZ, Robert B. O'Neill of Canton, GA, two daughters, Lillian L. Fields of Hobe Sound, FL, Karen Tordoff of Canton, MA, also 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 10 great great-grandchildren, and 13 great great great-grandchildren. Vera was predeceased in 1971 by her first husband, Vernon D. O'Neill and in 2006 by her second husband, George F. Pitts.
Calling hours were held on Monday August 9, 2010 from 10 - 11:00am in the East Hampstead Union Church, 225 Main St., E. Hampstead. Funeral services followed at 11:00am in the church. Following cremation, graveside services will be held on Wednesday August 11th at 11:00am at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Millis, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Hampstead Union Church, 225 Main Street, E. Hampstead, NH 03826. The Peabody Funeral Homes, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling arrangements.
