Constance (McKim)(Chenoweth) Maki was born in Quincy Massachusetts on October 9, 1918. She
was the youngest of three daughters of Ohman McKim and Winifred (Sutton)
McKim. Ohman, an outstanding baseballer of his time, controlled the Quincy Markets at
Faneuil Hall. Connie lived in Quincy until the early deaths of both her mother and
father. She was then raised by her Aunt Yvonne and Uncle Harry Sutton, a Boston
leather broker, in East Braintree, Massachusetts.
Graduating in the top 5 of her class from Braintree High School in 1932, saw her enroll and
subsequently graduate from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. Connie then went
to work as a secretary in the greater Boston area. Many happy summers were spent at the
Sutton's summer camp on Stetson Pond in Pembroke.
She married Dale M. Chenoweth in 1938 and had two sons, Ernst E. and Mark S. while
living in East Braintree with her sister Doris (McKim) Settles. After WW1 which Dale served in, they
moved to Holbrook Massachusetts for about 4 years until the family eventually moved to High St. Hanson,
Massachusetts and joined the First Congregational Church of Hanson. She sang for
many years in the church choir along with husband Dale and participated in numerous
community activities. She was an accomplished equestrian and had a strong interest in the
outdoors and fishing as well as a keen eye for antiques and art. With the children in school, she
returned to part time work at Sally's Dress Shop in Whitman, as she was always
very fashion conscious.
Dale passed away in 1964. She built a house on Bonney Hill Lane, Hanson closer to her
sister Carol (McKim) Bryant, and moved into it in 1964. Connie became Secretary to the
Director of Marketing for Ocean Spray Inc. She later married Lauri John Maki, a homebuilder,
in 1968 and resided together in the Bonney Hill Lane home until moving
eventually into Wingate At Silver Lake Retirement Village in 2008. Lauri passed away in
2009 after 41 years of marriage. Constance is survived by her 2 sons: Ernst E.
Chenoweth and his wife Virginia and daughter Kelsey of Stowe, Vermont, and Mark S.
Chenoweth and his wife Maureen and sons Christopher, Luke and Benjamin of
Sydney, Australia.
Her services will be held on Wednesday July 7th at 11:00AM in the First Congregational Church, 639 High St. Hanson. Interment will follow in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson.
