Betty Porter Gaia, 81, Clarksville, died Monday, December 28, 2009, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Rev. Tom Youngblood officiating. Visitation will be from 1p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born December 25, 1928 in Delray Beach, FL daughter of the late Richard Hubert Porter and Maria Frances Ely Porter. She served in public education for over forty years in Jackson, TN and Montgomery County. She retired from Moore Elementary School after twenty seven years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Community Theater, the Women's Club, and the Kappa Delta Society. She also delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Richard Gaia (Beverly), Gallatin, TN; a daughter, Maria Gaia, Clarksville; a sister, Frances Davis, Clearwater, FL; four grandchildren, Richard Jason Herrell, Craig Porter Pruitt, Christy Buckles, and Chip Gaia; two step-grandchildren, Matt and John Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Roberts, Cole Pruitt, and Ryan Buckles.
