Francis McLellan

Archimandrite Joasaph (McLellan), 47, of Boston, Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem for the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, after a brave fight with cancer, at Mass. General Hospital, Dec 18th. Born Francis R. McLellan Jr, in Boston, to the late Francis R. (James) McLellan Sr. and Pauline B. [Rooney] McLellan on January 24, 1962. In 1985 he received his B.Th. from Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY. He graduated with an M.A., Ph.D. in 1996 in Slavic Language and Literature at Brown University, where he also sang with the Brown Derbies. He most recently taught in the Slavic Dept. at Princeton University. He was a founding faculty member of the Summer School of Liturgical Music at Holy Trinity Seminary. Tonsured a monk with the name Joasaph, he was then ordained a priest in 2008, at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY. Appointed Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, he served the Convent of the Ascension and the Convent of St. Mary Magdalene. He leaves behind his beloved stepmother Jolinda (Pelagia) McLellan of Roslindale, MA, five siblings (Ann McLellan Lardas, Daniel N. McLellan, Genevieve McLellan, Andrew McLellan, Suzannah McLellan) and a large and loving family. The pannikhida and parastas will be served at Holy Epiphany Church on Sunday 12/20 at 6 pm. Funeral and internment will be at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY on Monday at 1 pm.
