Obituary

Valerie H. (Chavanne) Woodcock, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died on Monday July 6, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. She was 62 years old.

Valerie was born in Boston on May 11, 1947. She grew up in Melrose where she attended Melrose Public Schools and graduated from Melrose High School in 1965. She recieved her Bachelor of Arts Degree Suma Cum Laude from Emmanuel College. Valerie worked as a musical therapist for many years in the Melrose area, volunteering her time to various senior homes and nursing homes. She worked at Oosterman's Rest Home in Wakefield. She was a communicant and choir member at Incarnation Church in Melrose and former member of The Polymnia Society of Melrose.

Valerie is the devoted mother of Peter R. (Woodcock) Chavanne and his wife Victoria of Metairie, Louisiana. She is the loving Grandma Val to Jackson Wolfgang. She is the loving twin sister of Marc W. Chavanne of Melrose and beloved sister of Francine Bloch of Brimfield and Carole VerEecke of Brooklyn, New York. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Valerie's Funeral will be held on Thursday July 9, 2009 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by her Funeral Mass in The Church of The Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday July 8, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
