Mr. Coakley D. Rooney, 64, of 642 Fourth Ave., Berlin, NH passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Berlin, NH on September 19, 1944 the son of Augustine and Diane (Landry) Rooney. He was educated in Berlin schools and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1962. He resided for a time in Groveton before returning to Berlin, where he was self employed as a contractor for many years. He was signed by the San Francisco Giants in 1963 and played for their farm team. In 1965 he went on to Twin Falls, Idaho to play for the Pioneer League. Mr. Rooney enjoyed baseball, hockey, golfing, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Members of the family include his daughter Joelle Bastian of Lancaster, NH, his son John Rooney and wife Jodi of Lancaster, NH; his grandchildren Mikala Bastian, Jordan Bastian, Myah Bastian, Jillian Rooney, Chad Kenison and Chelsey Kenison; his companion of many years Sharon Chambers of Berlin, NH and her children Lisa, Tim and his wife Lori, Zuri and Sean and their families: 2 sisters Eileen Rooney of Berlin, NH and Phyllis Morrissette of Berlin, NH; 1 brother Michael Rooney and wife Adela of Spring Valley, CA; his sister-in-law Jeanne Rooney of Ft. Wayne, IN; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Sister Anne Marie Rooney and his brother James Rooney.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 23, 2009 at 11 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery in Gorham. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, NH on Monday evening from 6 to 9 PM.
