Dorothy A. (Drew) Horta, 90, died Wednesday May 27, 2009 at home after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Harry and Constance (Pereira) Drew, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Horta enjoyed playing piano, painting artwork and doing crossword puzzles. She also wrote a children's story book and won poetry awards.
Survivors include eleven children, Ronald Horton, Richard Horton, Gary Horton, Bruce Horton, Brian Horta, Sandra Rego, Dale Amaral, Diane Mendes, Gaye Horta and Jeff Horta, all of New Bedford, and Cheryl Byrne of Dartmouth; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Freddy Rollins, Jr., Gerald Pereira and Wayne Horton, and sister of the late Harriet Trott.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday 4-8 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com
