James F. Calder
...Past Pres. Mass. Jaycees and JCI Senate; 74
James F. Calder, age 74, a former executive for the Massachusetts Jaycees, died Saturday, May 9, at the Lowell General Hospital, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Janet (Donahue) Calder, with whom he would have celebrated a 27th wedding anniversary on May 22.
He was born in Cambridge, June 13, 1934, a son of the late John and Lena (Pierce) Calder. He was raised in Billerica, and graduated Howe High School with the Class of 1951. He went on to graduate Bentley College in Waltham. He lived in Billerica until moving to Westford in 1974, and most recently moved to Tyngsboro in 2007. He had wintered in Florida for the last eight years.
His work career was with AVCO, where he retired as Director of AVCO Wilmington Publication in 1989.
He was active in Jaycees, and held numerous offices in both Jaycees and the JCI Senate, including President of the Massachusetts Jaycees, and the Mass JCI Senate. He also served as Treasurer and Administrator of the Jaycee Headquarters Trust for 22 years. In 1994 the James F. Calder Award of the Mass Jaycees was established, in 1999 he received the USJCC "Return The Favor" Award, and in 2001 he was an Inductee to the US Jaycees Foundation Hall of Leadership.
Jim filled his time with family, travel, JCI friends, and JCI events.
Besides his wife he is survived by children, Cynthia Medeiros of Bennington, NH, John and his wife Cindy Calder of Shrewsbury, Jennifer and her husband David Rideout of Billerica; grandchildren, James, Timothy and Patrick Calder, Heather Medeiros, Jacqueline and Christopher Rideout; step-children, Kenneth and his wife Deb Greeno of Chelmsford, Kevin and his wife Bonnie Greeno of Townsend, Sharon and her husband Paul Dunn of West Kingston, RI, Kristin and her husband David Yencho of Groton, Michael and his wife Michelle Greeno of Hudson, NH; step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric Anderson, Ashley Greeno, Morgan Greeno, Timothy and Tiffany Greeno, Brittney Greeno, Kenneth Dunn, Taylor, Chelsey, and Christina Yencho, Mitchel Greeno, step-great grandchildren, Vanessa Greeno and Mackenzie Anderson; brothers, William Calder of Puyallup, WA, Walter and his wife Betty Calder of Billerica; sister, Marjorie Perry of MA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Jeanette Calder and Robert Calder.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of Dewey and Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, phone (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Burial will follow in Tewksbury Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Mass JCI Senate Scholarship Fund, c/o Al Jones, treasurer, 103 Camden St., Dracut, MA 01826, will be appreciated.
