Edwina Drew Parrish, 74, of Summerville, SC, widow of Walter A. Parrish, died, Thursday, January 29, 2009, at Trident Hospital. The funeral will be held Saturday, January 31 at the James Dyal Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. The internment will be private. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12:00 until the hour of service.
Born in Savannah, Georgia on February 8, 1934, she was the daughter of William Coley and Myrtle Chapman Drew. Mrs. Parrish was a devoted mother, homemaker and an Eastern Star. Edwina and Walter were happily married for 49 years. She accompanied Walter on his many tours of duty in the US Air Force. Their travels included Puerto Rico, Guam, England, and several U.S. states. In each location she made a house a home for Walter and the children. Early on, she was nicknamed “Winky” and remained Winky to those who knew and loved her.
She is pre-deceased by her sons, Walter Allen and Michael Dean Parrish. She is survived by her children; Steven and his wife Vicki of Summerville, SC, Janet Gotshaw of Newport News, VA, Jonee Young and her husband Kelly of Asheboro, NC, and Lisa Poorman and her husband Gary of Mt Laurel, New Jersey. She is also survived by 9 nine grandchildren; Adam Parrish, Benjamin Gotshaw, Christy Dudley, Carmen Gotshaw, Amy Trim, Colleen and Jason Young, Connor and Carson Parrish; and 10 great-grandchildren.
