New Bedford- Mariana D. Amaral aged 96 years died December 8th at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved widow of Francisco Amaral. She was the loved mother of Joseph P. Amaral of Dartmouth, Manuel Amaral, Mario Amaral and Maria Natalia Lima all of New Bedford, Maria Eliza Goulart and Alzira Maria Silveira both of Canada Mrs. Amaral was the sister of Filomena Santos of New Bedford and the late Maria Gomes, Ana da Silva Abreu, Umbelina da Silva Abreu, Hortence Garcia, Helena Furtado and Jose P. da Silva. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Maria Clementina da Silva of Dartmouth; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Amaral was the daughter of the late Pedro da Silva Abreu and Maria Otilia (da Silva). Born in Faial, Açores, she has lived in New Bedford since 1968 and worked at ALCO Dress Company until her retirement.
Mrs. Amaral’s Funeral is from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Thursday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 P.M.
