When he was a child, Wlibur's family moved from Birmingham, AL to Huntsville, AL. He attended Council Training School, Normal, Alabama through the tenth grade and graduated from Boggs Academy in Keysville, Georgia. He attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Wilbur accepted Christ during his teens and was baptized at Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama.
Wilbur leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Carolyn Horton Cooper; two daughters, Antoinette Cooper and Shantel Cooper; three sons, Scott Cooper, Anthony Cooper and Christopher Cole; two stepsons, Somanique Horton and Tobias Horton; his father Wilbert H. Cooper; two brothers Ronald (Djuna) Cooper of Columbia, South Carolina and Kenneth "B.B." Cooper of Huntsville, AL; one grandson, Jamari Makai; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Rachel Horton; sisters-in-law, Doris (Robert)
Richard of Huntsville, Alabama Sherry Toney of Harvest, Alabama, Charonda (Wendell) Murray and Latoya Horton, both of Huntsville, Alabama; three borothers-in-law, Frank (Pamela) Horton, Jr., David (Cathy) Horton and Terrance (Tanesha) Horton, all of Huntsville, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Cooper will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008 from the Fellowship Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. John Herndon officiating and Reverend Michael Hartwell as Eulogist. The Cooper family will receive family and friends on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The remains of Mr. Cooper will be in the church one hour prior to funeral time.
