Herbert D. Schofield, lifelong resident of Needham, died on Monday, April 21st at his home surrounded by his family. He was 73 years old. Born in Needham, he was the son of the late Francis M. and Consuelo C. (Diaz) Schofield. Herb attended Needham public schools and was a graduate of Needham High School Class of 1952. He was a US Army veteran . Herb graduated from Boston College with the Class of 1961. While at BC he was a member of the Glee Club. Herb was a manufacturer’s rep in the toy industry for many years. He was a former president of NETRA. A lifelong member of the Needham Knights of Columbus Council #1611, Herb was also a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. He was an usher at St. Joseph Parish for over 50 years. The beloved husband for 45 years of M. Jean (MacLean) Schofield, he was the loving father of Mary Antonellis and her husband Richard of Dedham, Cristina Schofield and her husband Michael Oliveira of Holt, MI and Herbert D. Schofield II of Needham. Brother of Pearl Garron of Ashland and Iris McDonough of Needham. Cherished “Papa” of Peter, Larisa, Joseph and Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Church 1360 Highland Ave Needham on Friday April 25th at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Interment at Needham Cemetery.
