New Bedford MA, Irene (Arruda) Rose, died December 1, 2007, at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a long illness. She was the widow of Theodore P. Rose. She was the mother of Barbara Kathryn (Rose) Frost wife of Charles L.C. of Fairhaven and Charlene- Jane Preece of Dartmouth, MA. She was the grandmother of Dawn Frost Thibeault of Dartmouth, MA, Stacie Lee Frost Maranhas of St. Charles, Ill. and Jason Preece Kelley of Dartmouth, MA., She was the great-grandmother of Earl, Mack, and Brock Thibeault, and Mikaela and Kyle Maranhas. She was the sister of Sally Oliver of Dartmouth, Geraldine Simon, George, Leonard, and Joseph Arruda all of CA.,and sister of the late John Arruda, Gloria Souza, Sarah Sylvia, Sophie Medeiros and Mary Barros; she is also survived by nieces & nephews.
Mrs. Rose was the daughter of the late Jesse Mary Rose (Sylvia) Arruda, also the stepdaughter of the late Felisbina (Falco- Moniz) Arruda.She was born in Dartmouth and lived in this area all of her life. She was employed as a seamstress at local dress factories. She was a former member of the Portuguese American Social Club. Irene’s greatest joy and love were her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. She liked going ballroom dancing and won several Trophies in Competition, She also liked sewing from an early age, Irene loved creating clothes at the age of 13. She won a prize for New Bedford Cotton Days with her checkered dress, and continued to sew and in design clothing most of her life.
Mrs. Rose's Funeral is From the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Saturday at 9:30 A.M. with religious service starting at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Padanaram Cemetery in South Dartmouth. Visiting hours will be Friday evening form 5 to 7 P.M.
