Obituary

WORCESTER-Alfred “Al” Laverty, 92, of Worcester, died Sunday, November 25th at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cecile (Brien) Laverty, a step-daughter Elionore, wife of Paul Bell of Jacksonville, FL; two step-granddaughters, Laurie, wife of Walter Lungarini of Simsbury, CT and Lisa, wife of Dr. Robert Schell of Morganton, NC; four step-grandchildren, Alex and Adam Schell and Alyssa and Nicole Lungarini; a brother, Paul Laverty of Westfield; two sisters, Claire Laverty and Patricia, wife of Philip Brunelle all of Worcester; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by brother’s Joseph R. and William Laverty and four sisters, Grace Laverty, Barbara Scotti, Dorothy McFadden and Mary St. Germaine.

He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph F. and Mary E. (Laughlin) Laverty and lived in Worcester his entire life, attending Worcester schools. Mr. Laverty graduated from Clark University and continued his education at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and MIT. He was Chief Chemist at Wyman Gordon where he worked for thirty years. Mr. Laverty was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed traveling and gardening and wintering in Florida.

Calling hours are Friday, November 30th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, followed by the funeral service. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 12 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602.
