WORCESTER-Catherine F. (Barry) Smith, 68, of 37 Englewood Avenue died Saturday, July 28th in St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She leaves her husband of 47 years, Arthur B. Smith, Jr.; 4 sons, Bryan A. Smith and his wife Karen of Oakham, Michael B. Smith and his wife Eileen of Shirley, Patrick (Arthur B. Smith, III) and his spouse Carlos of Southbridge and Andrew B. Smith of Worcester; a daughter, Kathleen E. Schafer and her husband Mark of Reno, Ohio; a brother, Edward P. Barry and his companion Joan of California; 2 sisters, Mae Desautels and her husband Alphonse of North Oxford and Margurate Socha and her husband Joseph of Leicester; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Dylan, Olivia, Ian, Morgan, Brandon and Matthew; and several nephews and nieces.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Michael J. and Mary (Brogan) Barry. Mrs. Smith was a 1957 graduate of Ascension High School. She was employed by the Senior Companion Program at Elder Services in Worcester as a program assistant for 8 years. Mrs. Smith was very active in the Charismatic Movement and had a long time affiliation with Fr. Ralph D’Iorio’s Ministry. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and a longtime member of St. John’s Prayer Group. Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
The funeral is Wednesday, August 1st from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at Noon in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 31st and from 9:30 until 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 1st, in the funeral home.
