Obituary

Harriet (Smillie) Boynton of North Easton died on Sunday April 8th at Clark House at Fox Hill Village in Westwood. She was 83 years old. Born on Boston, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Isabell (Wills) Smillie. Harriet grew up in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School and LaSalle Junior College. Her first job was at Jack Smillie’s Candy wholesale business in Cambridge. She later worked at Boynton Insurance Agency in Needham as the bookkeeper for over 30 years. She retired at the age of 78. She married her late husband Charles I. Boynton Jr. in 1947, they were married for 39 years. Charles pre-deceased her in 1986. Charles and Harriet moved to North Easton in 1952 and raised their 4 children there. The beloved wife of the late Charles I. Boynton Jr., she was the dear mother of Charles I. “Chip” Boynton III and his wife Leca of Needham, John A. Boynton and his wife Judy of London, England, Anthony L. “Tony” Boynton and his wife Dawn of North Easton and Patricia “Patti” Markwith and her husband Neil of Bedford NH. Harriet was the sister of Howard Smillie of Acton, Clifford Smillie of Woburn and Phyllis Spence of Fairfax VA. Also survived by six grandsons, Chas, Jimmy, Jake, Mark and A.J. Boynton and Andrew Markwith. A Memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 91 Center St. North Easton on Friday April 20 at 3 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Following the service a reception will be held at Harriet’s home at 2 Laurel Dr. in North Easton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harriett’s name may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 91 Center St. No. Easton MA 02356 or to the March of Dimes 1275 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains NY 10605.
