John P. Cox Jr., 73, a Rockland resident for 27 years, passed away on August 29th at his residence after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of 50 years to Isabel (Viapiano) Cox of Rockland; loving father of John J. Cox of Washington State, Nancy Mills of Plymouth, and Kevin Cox and long time girlfriend, Kimberly Fuller, both of Plymouth. He was the loving grandfather of Christopher, Shawn, Robert, John, and Jeanette. He was the loving brother of Murriel Reimers, Beverly Becker, Barbara Steavers, Eleanor Merrill, James and Donald Cox, and the late Dorothy Gallo and Edward Cox; Long time friends: Tony and Kathy Viapiano of Quincy and George Wagner of Kingston.

Mr. Cox was born in Weymouth, son of the late John P. Sr. and Isabella (Cowing) Cox. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Weymouth High School.

Mr. Cox worked for the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston before retiring. On Saturday, September 3rd, he and his wife, Isabel, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and the Navy Reserve for 10 years. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Award, Navy "E" Award and Good Conduct Medal.

Funeral from the Quealy and Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Route 58 near North School & New England Art Building) Abington on Friday, September 2nd at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church, 455 Plymouth Street (Route 58), Abington at 9 a.m. Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday (September 1st) from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
