Mrs. Elsie (Sewell) Oliver, a long time resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late Philip D. Oliver, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Friday morning, April 29, 2016. She was 98 years old.
Born in Spring Hope, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Wade H. and Anna (Hyman) Sewell. Mrs. Oliver worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Vose Art Galleries for 60 years. An active woman, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and walking. She was a lifelong member of the NAACP, Eastern Stars, and Jr. Matrons in West Medford. She was a committed and avid member of both the Shiloh Baptist and the West Medford Baptist Church's in West Medford. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving sister, Doris Norman of Connecticut, nieces and nephews; Earl Ross, Sr. of Pennsylvania, Elsie Underwood of California, Marsh Bush of Plympton, Rohaven Richards of Texas, W. Carnell Griffin of Medford, Valerie Richard of California, Jill Norman Fouad of Connecticut and Nathaniel Sewell of Natick, Diane Headen of Maryland, Sandra Bronson of Brockton, and Joseph Madden of Maryland. In addition, she was beloved and will be missed by a host of great nieces, great nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Her Funeral Service will be celebrated in the West Medford Baptist Church, 59 Boston Avenue, Medford on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsie's memory may be made to the West Medford Community Center, 111 Arlington St., W. Medford, MA 02155.
