Ruth “Sissy” Owens age 63 of Canton passed away April 30th at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School. She lived in Jamaica Plain for many years before moving to Canton 3 years ago. She worked for many years as the Administrator of Secretarial services for Verizon in Boston before retiring in 1996. After retiring she worked at CVS in Government Center running the photo lab. Ruth enjoyed crafts, especially making paper flowers, shopping at Thrift Stores, spending time with her grandchildren, spending time at the beach in and was a great cook. She was a selfless person who always put the needs of others before her own. She previously taught Sunday School at the United Emmanuel Holyness Church in Roxbury. Mother of Donnette V. McManus and Kimberly M. Owens both of Easton. Daughter of Charles and Marion Turner of Dorchester. Best friend of Sharon A. McCoy of Canton. Sister of Charlesetta Wilder of Roxbury, Marion Walker of Dorchester, Larry Turner of Foxboro, and Tyrone Thornton of Mattapan. Grandmother of TaKya Lee, Kamyla Owens, Walford McManus III and Kaley Owens. Relatives and friends invited to attend a funeral service at the Congregational Church of Canton Friday at 12 noon. Visitation at the church Friday prior to the service from 11 to 12 noon. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
