Edith was born in Andover at the O’Donnell Sanatorium on June 5, 1925, to Ernest E. and Dorice (Moulton) Anderson. A life-long lover of animals, she grew up at the Pine Grove Hatchery on Ballard Vale Road, tending bee hives and orchards. She attended Bradley School and graduated from Punchard High School in 1943, marrying Burton B. Batcheller two years later.

Edith was active in the Andover community her entire life. She worked at South School, and along Main St. for many years – at the Andover Gift Shop, Mary Ann’s Card and Yarn Shop, and Moose-A-laneous – and volunteered at the Andover Thrift Shop. She spent time outdoors in every season, gardening, cross-country skiing, and taking walks. She loved her family, her friends, and all their pets.

Edith leaves behind her three children Leslie Gurry and her husband Gregory of Andover, JoAnn Jacobson and her husband Robert of Andover, and her son Burton B. Batcheller, Jr. of Methuen; four grandchildren Marcie Jacobson of North Andover, Mark Jacobson and his wife Jennifer of Beverly, Kate Nugent and her husband Ryan of Melrose, and Alexander Batcheller of Methuen; four great-grandchildren Russell and Clara Jacobson, Ryley and Shea Nugent; a step-son Peter Selvin; sister-in-law Diane Anderson and a host of other friends and family. She was predeceased by her husbands Burton B. Batcheller and Maurice Selvin, her daughter-in-law Margaret (Bartow) Batcheller and her siblings: Helen Webb, Evelyn Bailey, Ruth Batchelder, and Charles Anderson.
