Raymond P. Letourneau, age 87, of Mansfield, formerly of Sharon and Norwood, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Norwood Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Ellen E. (Carroll) Letourneau.
Born in Boston, MA on November 1, 1928, he was a loving son of the late Jerome and Gladys (Newton) Letourneau.
Ray grew up in Sharon and was a1946 graduate of Sharon High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII. He was stationed in Japan and was honorably discharged on January 12, 1948 with the rank of Sergeant Tech 4. Upon separation from the service, Ray continued his education and graduated summa cum laude from Bentley College with a degree in accounting.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Letourneau was the proud owner of R.P. Letourneau Accounting, specializing in tax returns. He had previously been employed as a Controller for Bardahl Lubricants and had also worked many years in the banking industry.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 12 years, He had previously resided in Sharon, Norwood and also in Walpole. Ray was passionate about Thoroughbred racing. He served as a former State Commissioner and was a familiar face at Suffolk Downs, Rockingham Park, Raynham Park and Plain Ridge Park.
He is survived by his loving and devoted children Nancy Sarzen of Brockton, Shirley Abreu of Rockland, MA, Deborah Rolfe of Brockton, Raymond Letourneau-Lickel of San Diego, CA, Susan Berthelette of Mansfield, Kevin Letourneau of Norwood, Deanna Santospago of Foxboro and Peter Santospago of Attleboro. He is also survived by his cherished eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow with military honors at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Sharon.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 4th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
