Miriam Elizabeth McCartney Cauthen, 87, a longtime resident of Tifton passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Benjy Varnell officiating. Ms. Cauthen will be laid to rest at a later date. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 1, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born November 14, 1928 in Tift County, Ms. Cauthen was the daughter of the late James Thomas McCartney, Sr. and Kate Wright McCartney. She was also preceded in death by a son, Tom McCartney Cauthen; and two brothers, James Thomas McCartney, Jr. and Nicholas Wright McCartney. She retired as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture after 30 years of service. She later worked as a secretary with the Rural Development Center. She was a longtime member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church and a devoted wife and mother.
Mrs. Cauthen is survived by a son, William Roy Cauthen, Jr. of Eldorado; and a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Ellen Cauthen Godden and her husband, Ronald Ernest Godden of Wasilla, Alaska.
