Joao Fontes (82) of Brockton died April 9th in the New England Sinai Hospital, Stoughton.
He was born in Cova Figueira, Fogo, Cabo Verde son of the late Quintiliano and Caterina (Fernandes) Fontes. Joao was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed listening to Cape Verdean music and led a quiet life.
Survivors include 5 sons, Luis, Marcos, Mario, and Jose Fontes all of Brockton, Antonio Fontes of Dorchester, 3 daughters, Caterina, Dirce and Matilde Fontes all of Brockton, many grand and great grandchildren, 3 brothers including Francisco, John and Manuel Fontes all of Brockton, 2 sisters, Matilde Andrade of Florida and Maria Pires of Brockton.
Funeral Services from the Home of Funerarias Multi Culturel 238 Court Street Brockton Thursday April 14th at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church at 9 am. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday April 13th from 5-9 pm.
