Obituary

Alfred Halwix, 88, of Bridgewater, formerly of Quincy, passed away on Monday March 28th. He was the beloved husband of Elsie (Burden) Halwix. Alfred was born in Chicago, son of the late Martin and Mary (Somojy) Halwix.

After graduating high school, he served in the United States Navy, 4 years on a Baltimore-class heavy cruiser in Korea.

Alfred met his future bride Elsie at an USO dance and was married for 61 wonderful years with 6 children. He worked for the Department of Navy, Labor and EEOC divisions in Cambridge and Boston for 35 years.

He was passionately involved in many clubs and activities after retirement such as The New England 65+ Runners Club with many medals from the Greater Boston and Quincy Senior Games.
Alfred was a longtime member of the Loon Pond Horseshoe Club in Lakeville with many top trophies, where in 2004 he was recognized nationally by the NHPA’s Top Ten for ringers over average of 34.00.He was a longtime member of the Old Colony YMCA, where he loved morning workouts and socializing with all the staff and members giving out his prized stock market tips.

Alfred and his wife Elsie loved ballroom dancing once a week and they loved the music of Marcia and Dave Burbank and followed them regularly. They also loved to travel together and took yearly vacations to Hawaii, Aruba and Bermuda.

Alfred’s many hobbies were trips to the Casino with friends to play slots and his love of his NE Patriots.

Alfred leaves behind a loving family of, Sharon and Thomas O’Connell of Whitman, Bryan Halwix and Jane Shaw of ME, Ross Halwix of Quincy, Linda and Alfred DelVecchio of Rockland, Eric Halwix of Bridgewater and the Late Mark Halwix. Alfred also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always keep him in there thoughts and prayers.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday April 9th at 3:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service from 2:00-3:00 PM.
