LACONIA - Walter C. "Junior" Harris Jr., 87, of 30 County Drive, passed peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Belknap County Nursing Home after a period of declining health.
Walter was born on September 9, 1928 in Laconia, the son of Walter C. Sr. and Lulu (Blake) Harris. He was a Belmont High School graduate and enjoyed many sports, especially the Belmont Basketball Team.
Junior was a tireless worker, who besides working a regular forty hour work week could be seen painting on weekends in the summer or manning the top of the old double chair at the Gunstock Ski Area. He never lost the time after dinner to play catch, go to recitals or fix what needed fixing. Junior was an avid supporter of all the extracurricular activities of his children and grandchildren. Always seen with his wife, Estelle, in the stands, on the sidelines or in the car supporting his children and his three cherished grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the health care workers at Genesis Laconia Rehabilitation & Nursing Center and also the Belknap County Nursing Home.
Walter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Estelle (Foote) Harris, his son, Walter C. Harris III and his wife Susan, two daughters; Judy H. Ball and her husband Richard and Jodi L. Harris and her partner Ric H. Brooks, grandchildren Keith Ball, Abby Ball and Ian Harris and one brother, Norman Harris.
Calling hours will be held from 4PM to 6PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance. A celebration of life and a time for sharing will begin at 5:45 PM, during the calling hours.
Burial will be private.
