Mrs. Doris V. (Flaherty) Matta, 91, of Medford, passed peacefully in her home on February 20, 2016. Born in Woburn, she had been an area resident all her life. Mrs. Matta was the daughter of the late Martin and Julia Flaherty. She was a retired employee of the United States Government. Mrs. Matta enjoyed reading and knitting, but mostly loved to spend time with her family. The widow of Carmine S. Matta, she is also pre-deceased by her siblings: Mary Maguire, Elizabeth Flaherty, Julia Mantere, Gladys Callahan, Theresa Gately, and Albert Flaherty. Mrs. Matta is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Matta of Medford, her son, Richard Matta and his wife Catherine of Walpole, and one brother, Leo Flaherty of Everett. She was the adored grandmother of R. Neil Matta and Stephanie Matta. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 9:30 am at the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave. Medford. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
