Obituary

Barbara Ann Spencer, our sweet mother, Granny, and friend was released from her pain on February 10, 2016. She was residing in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Barbara was born on July 28, 1950 in Hampstead, England to Robert and Betty Scott. She was the oldest of four children, Raymond, Robert and Anita.
Through her younger years she enjoyed traveling all over the United States with her family as her father was in the military. She spent a lot of time in California and Alaska. She finally settled in the New England area and spent most of her time in Marlborough, MA. Barbara married Jim Figlioli and was blessed with three boys. She devoted most of her life to raising her boys and spending time with her family. Later she was re-married to John Spencer. Barbara loved life and always looked for an opportunity to help those she knew and sometimes those she did not know. She enjoyed teaching ceramics, sewing, and telling children stories. Barbara had a deep love for children. She ran a daycare in her home for over 20 years. She also provided foster care for several teenage boys. Barbara found joy in seeing people change and become better. She loved trying to provide that opportunity to those around her. Barbara also loved animals and enjoyed having her Rottweilers.
For the past 16 years, Barbara has been by herself enjoying life by trying to serve and love others. There were many challenges within Barbara’s life and she would often try to find simple things to bring happiness close to her heart. When stuck in traffic she would blow bubbles out the window. Sometimes she could be found jumping in puddles or shooting people with squirt guns. She was always the first one to throw a snowball at you. These simple and fun acts were common in her life. She enjoyed having a purpose to her life. She loved to visit those in need or those struggling. Late in her life she decided to go back to school to become a home health aide so that she could continue to help those in need. Barbara was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and the gospel. She enjoyed traveling to the Washington, D.C. Temple, and watching the Boston Temple being built and attending it afterward. She loved to research her family history and continued to work on it until her condition would not allow. Barbara is now free from her pain that she has been in for several years. We are sure she is enjoying her time dancing and conversing with those who have passed on before her. We love her with bunches of love, barrels of hugs, and bushels of kisses.
Barbara is survived by her children Michael Figlioli, Shawn Figlioli, and Vinnie (Becky) Figlioli; grandchildren (Michael’s) Patrick, Maryssa, Jeramie, Sabryna, (Shawn’s) Nicholas, Andrew, Ava, (Vinnie’s) Alison, Isaac, Emilie, David, Jessica, and Daniel.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Southcoast Ward located at 400 Cross Road, North Dartmouth, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to The Humane Society, 31 Ventura Drive, Dartmouth, MA 02747 or Child and Family Services, 1061 Pleasant Street, New Bedford, MA 02740.
