CHICOPEE – Ann M. Fitzgerald, 68, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, February 8, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at the Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst surrounded by the care and comfort of her family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on September 30, 1947, a beloved daughter of the late Maurice R. and Stephanie (Tupaj) Fitzgerald. She was raised in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. She graduated from Holy Name of Jesus Elementary School and in 1965 graduated from Chicopee High School. She furthered her education and in 1969 graduated from Westfield State Teacher’s College where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was employed for 35 years as a Teacher for the Chicopee Public School System and worked at Bellamy Middle School and the Fairview Veterans’ Memorial School. She was a member of the Chicopee Cultural Council, the American Bosch Travel Club and the Massachusetts State Teacher’s Association. Ann loved to travel and visited many places in the United States and many foreign countries including Italy, Ireland and Australia. She also enjoyed her home where she had a beautiful flower garden during the spring and summer. She leaves many dear cousins and numerous friends. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday morning, February 13, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, which will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. Her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the Fisher Home, 1165 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA 01002 or to the charity of the donors’ choice.
