Joseph P. “Jack” Pocius, age 87, of North Easton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the devoted partner of Barbara A. Brooks of North Easton.
Born in Brockton, MA 0n July 4, 1928, he was a loving son of the late Bronis and Mary (Brooks) Pocius.
Jack grew up and was educated in West Bridgewater. He graduated from Stoughton High School where he was a scholastic basketball player.
Following graduation, he proudly served his country for nearly three years as a member of the United States Navy; being honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Pocius served as a Bosun in the Merchant Marines. He had made his home in North Easton for over 40 years.
Jack was a true friend to all who knew him and he especially enjoyed times spent amongst family and friends.
When younger, he enjoyed golf, the ocean, boating shell fishing and will always be remembered for his exceptional cooking skills.
In addition to his devoted partner Barbara, he is survived by his devoted children Linda Pocius of Florida, Debra Pocius of Mashpee and Wayne Pocius and his wife Michelle of Florida. He was the dear brother of the late Bronis Pocius, Victor Brooks, Mary Ewas and John Pocius. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughters Kristine and Amanda, his nephews Peter Ewas, John Ewas and Jimmy Ewas, as well as Barbara’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, February 22nd at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 21st from 2:00-5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
