New Bedford – Guilhermina L. Melo, age 95, passed away on Sunday February 7, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Manuel Melo and the daughter of the late Maria Rita (de Medeiros) and Antonio Luiz Medeiros. Born in Ribeira Quente, St. Michael, Azores she moved to New Bedford in 1966. She worked for Paul Modes and Cove Manufacturer as a presser for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by her 2 children: Fatima Vertentes and John Melo both of New Bedford; 1 sibling: Sara Costa of New Bedford; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Guilhermina was also the mother of the late Tiago Medeiros Melo and Gilbert Medeiros Melo. She was also the sister of the late Antonio Medeiros, John Medeiros, Gilbert Medeiros and Maria Coelho.
Her funeral will be Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
