Obituary

Matthew Ryan Holmes, 22 lifelong residence of Hudson died, Friday January 22, 2016. He was the loving son of Jamie R. Holmes and Erin R. Holmes, and their significant others Melissa Adelstein and Matt Jackson.
Matthew was a graduate of Hudson High School class of 2011. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, as it was his dream as a little boy. He was honorably discharged in 2013. Matthew was awarded a Sniper Tab, Blue Infantry Cord, Expert Rifleman as well as The National Defense Service Medal in time of war. He was member of National Veterans group along with being involved with the National Comfort Institute.
He had a love of sports. His dad started teaching him to play catch before he could walk, and going to Red Sox games was one of their favorite pastimes together. Matthew was always wanting to jump into the next best thing. He even skipped the traditional crawling like other kids. He only “army” crawled and then went right into running. He played youth football and baseball from the time he was 5 through his High School years. Matthew was most proud of his little sister Rachel. He was so excited that she was going to college and constantly bragged about her. He loved coming to watch Drew and Conor play their hockey games, and shooting pucks and baskets with them in the driveway.
He took great pride in being a certified scuba diver. He was an avid Boston Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots fan. He was the devoted brother of Rachel Holmes, and stepbrother of Drew and Conor Jackson. He leaves his grandparents, Frank and Brenda Heard and Jay and Christine Murphy. He was the Nephew of Lori Jackson, Frank Heard Jr. and his wife Karyn, Jason Murphy and his wife Heather, Loislin Gibson and Kevin Heard, and he had many loving cousins.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Matthew’s name to Learn2Cope, 4 Court Street, Suite 110, Taunton, MA 02780 an organization committed to helping families of loved ones struggling with addiction. Matthew spoke at Learn2Cope as he was a passionate advocate for the recovery of others as well as his own. He had been in long term recovery at the time of his passing.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Grace Baptist Church, River Street, Hudson, MA. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Relatives and Friends may the attend calling hours on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5:00 -8:00 pm in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA.
