Edna M. (Hagar) Mateer

NATICK: Edna Mildred (Hagar) Mateer, 98, died peacefully on Saturday evening January 23, 2016 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Roseway, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 26, 1917 the daughter of the late Frederick C. Hagar and Mabel (Laverick) Hagar.
Edna was the wife for 46 years of the late Robert L. Mateer who died on April 4, 2002.
She is survived by her niece Judith A. “Judy” McCormack and her husband Joseph McCormack of Sandy, UT and her cousin Gerald “Gerry” Prior and his wife Mary Ellen Prior of Chelmsford. Also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.
Edna spent her earlier years in Roseway, Nova Scotia, Canada and emigrated to the Boston area where she was educated. She and her family resided in the Dorchester and West Roxbury area. She has been a resident of Natick for the last 58 years. Edna was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church in Cochituate and was a member of the Community United Methodist Women’s Club. She enjoyed knitting for the annual church fair as well as knitting prayer shawls for the church. She and Bob enjoyed trips to visit family in Texas as well as a vacation to England. Edna was a legal secretary for 16 years associated with Attorney Arlene Bernstein of Wellesley before retiring.
Her funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Gibbs Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland with the Reverend Ted Crass, Pastor of the Community United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mateer family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
There will be no funeral home visiting hours at the request of her family.
