Obituary

Dr. Howard F. Carpenter, Jr. of West Dennis formerly of South Easton, died Saturday January 16, 2016. He was the loving husband of Wilma F. (Meagher) Carpenter for nearly 57 years.
Dr. Carpenter was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island and was a graduate of Holy Cross College and Harvard Medical School. During the Viet Nam War, he served in the US Navy as a flight surgeon with the US Marines. He retired as a Captain from the Naval Reserve after 30 years of service. For over 40 years, Dr. Carpenter maintained his own surgical practice in Brockton and was also a Medical Examiner for the Plymouth County 1st District.
Following his retirement, Dr. Carpenter moved permanently to West Dennis where he enjoyed boating, gardening and always appreciated a good meal. He was truly proud of his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Carpenter leaves his three children Kathryn Rose and her husband James of Essex, VT; Tracy O’Brien and her husband Thomas of Mamaroneck, NY and Howard “Skip” Carpenter and his wife Melanie of Arvada, CO. He also leaves 7 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, two sisters Mary Crockett of Pawtucket, RI and Anne McKenna of Eastham, a brother-in-law William F. Meagher, Jr and his wife Ellen of Needham and many nieces and nephews.
