Obituary

Ruth M. (Ekman) Jensen of Sutton, MA died Monday, 18 January, 2016. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, George R. and Priscilla A. Ekman of Sutton, MA and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty L. (Ekman) Stone and husband Wentworth L. Stone of Greensboro, NC. She leaves nieces Karen L. Karie of Laveen, AZ, Linda D. Stone-Kolln of Autryville, NC, Kim Ekman Notari of Ariel, PA and Darlene Ekman Wood of Mesa, AZ and nephews Karl Ekman of Holden, MA and Gregory Stone of Santa Clara, CA. and several grand nieces and nephews.

Ruth was born in Worcester, MA on 4 January, 1929 the daughter of Karl G. and Carmen A. (Ljunggren) Ekman. She was educated in Shrewsbury, MA graduating from the Major Howard Beal High School. She was a graduate of Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years at Holden District Hospital, Holden, MA in the surgery and later in charge of the Recovery Room. She also worked as a nurse at the former Bay State Abrasives Company in Westborough, MA.

She was a former member of the Epworth Methodist Church,The Vasa Order of America, Nordic Lodge #611 and was very interested in Swedish and Viking history.

She and former husband Bernard Jensen co-owned Lordvale Kennels where they bred and showed German Shepherd dogs. She loved animals and was a founder of The German Shepherd Dog Club of Central Massachusetts along with her husband Bernard and Anne and John Raskett. She served as its first Secretary and later as Vice President and President of the club. She was a former member of The German Shepherd Dog Club of America, The Worcester County Kennel Club, The Bay Colony Pomeranian Club, The Shrewsbury Dog Training Club and the former Tri-Town Kennel Club.

She was a member of The Defenders of Wildlife, The National Resources Defense Council and The Humane Society of the United States. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, reading, cooking and baking and especially her dogs and cats.
