Joseph J. Sadak, Sr.

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Joseph J. Sadak, Sr., 92, a longtime resident of Westfield Street in West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 16, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his comrades at the Soldiers’ Home. He was born in Springfield on April 28, 1923, a beloved son of the late James Sadak and Jennie (Slaimen) Sadak. He was raised on Ferry Street in Springfield, attended Springfield Trade High School and lived in Springfield for many years. He later lived in Feeding Hills, Pawtucket, Rhode Island and West Springfield before moving to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private. He was an apprentice at the former Springfield Armory and worked for the Connecticut Light and Power Company. He was last employed as a machinist at the Schjeldahl Corporation. He was a member of the former Lebanese American Club on Worthington Street in Springfield and a member of the Saint Anthony Men’s Club. He was a lifelong communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two children, Sandra Bulpitt and Joseph J. Sadak, Jr.; his brother, Fred Sadak; and three sisters, Mary Nardozzi, Evaly Chasteen and Josephine Kennedy. He leaves four children, Joyce A. Tirocchi and her husband, Val, Barbara A. Saucier and her husband, Jeff, and Jennifer M. Sanita, all of Johnston, RI and James Sadak of Pawtucket, RI; his twelve grandchildren; his seven great-grandchildren; his four sisters, Elizabeth Alevras, Susie Cotton, Ann “Nunie” Malkoon and Elmyra “Emmy” Harbey, all of West Springfield; his sister-in-law, Jeannette Sadak of West Springfield; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Sadak family. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:15 p.m. at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
