New Bedford - Jose J. Pereira Sr., aka “Jose Zeca”, age 73 of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Maria (Cabral) Pereira of New Bedford. Jose was the son of the late Nazario and Evone (Leal) Pereira. Mr. Pereira was born in Santarem, Portugal and has lived here since 1960. He worked as a commercial fisherman for all of his life.
Jose is survived by his wife, Maria, 6 children: Paul Pereira of Somerset, Yvonne Pereira, Marcia Cordeiro, Michelle Pereira, Jose J. Pereira Jr. and Elizabeth Gomes all of New Bedford, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 4 siblings: Victor Pereira, Odelia Santos, Amelia Ricci and Suzette Servo all of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews. Jose was the brother of the late Joao Pereira.
His funeral will be on Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 8:15 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in New Bedford at 9:30 A.M. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Monday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
