Hazel M. (Bassett) McNeil, of Winchester, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully at her home, on Wednesday, January 13th. She was 90.

Born in Charlestown, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Alice (Mills) Bassett. A graduate of Charlestown High School, class of 1943, she was proud of her achievement of receiving a double promotion. After high school, Hazel met her husband William and the two married in 1944. Hazel and William built their family with the cornerstone of love and devotion. A homemaker, Hazel loved her children and enjoyed the time she had with them as they grew. Hazel’s favorite holiday was Christmas. As an avid shopper and sale finder, Christmas was the perfect time of year for Hazel to both enjoy her time and give to her family and friends. In her spare time, Hazel enjoyed various crafts and occasionally gambling. Hazel enjoyed to travel by cruise liner and took the opportunity as often as possible.

Hazel was the beloved wife of the late William J. McNeil, with whom she shared many loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Anne Palmer and her husband Phil of Weymouth, Lynda McNeil and her late husband Bradford Pearson of Andover, Sharon McNeil of Concord, Susan Choate and her husband Bill Seyfarth of New Jersey. She was the loving grandmother of eight and the loving great grandmother of eight. The dear sister of nine and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, including Marion Borges, her care giver.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Monday, January 18th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, in Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Hazel’s name to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Inc., 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
