Obituary

Mary "Winnie" Sapienza, 90, of Bedford NH passed away on Saturday January 9th at her residence in Bentley Commons Assisted Living Facility surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Norwood, MA daughter of the late Margaret (Poirier) and George Bowles and was raised and educated in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Winnie served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II as a parachute rigger and was recently honored for her service by Home and Health Hospice Care. Winnie was an accomplished artist earning many ribbons in art shows throughout New England and selling her paintings which now reside in various local and exotic locations. She loved traveling with her husband and especially cruising the Mediterranean and Caribbean. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and most of all her great granddaughter.

Winnie is survived by her sons Patrick Bowles and his wife Doris of Hudson MA, Robert Sapienza and his wife Donna of Sandy Hook CT, Michael Sapienza of Auburn NH, daughter Sandy Loomis of Manchester NH, sister Janet Wyman and her husband Michael of Pembroke MA, brother David Bowles and his wife Jean of Bridgewater MA, grandchildren Kimberly Cake and her husband Gentian of Worcester MA, Lisa, Stephen, Evan, John Sapienza, and great granddaughter Kristiana Grace Cake. Besides her parents Winnie is also predeceased by her husband John, her son James Sapienza, and a brother Robert Bowles.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday January 13th from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen MA. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday January 14th at 10:30 AM at St Joseph’s Church at 40 Main St in Salem NH with burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery also in Salem NH. Memorial contributions in Winnie's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City OK, 73123 or the Alzheimers Association through ALZ.org.
