Kenney, Charles C. Jr. of Harwich and West Roxbury, originally and proudly from Charlestown, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Deutches Altenheim on Saturday the 9th of January. Son of the late Charles C. and Marie (Devlin) Kenney of Charlestown, and devoted brother of the late Audrey and Daniel. Charlie lived a long and happy life. As a young man he fought bravely in WWII as a Navy submariner in the Aleutians, Coral Sea, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, earning two battle stars in the Asiatic Theater aboard the S-47 boat. Upon his return to Boston he enrolled at Boston College. He left BC to follow in his father’s footsteps at the Boston Fire Department, where he worked on Ladder 30 and The Rescue Company at the Big House in Bowdoin Square. He barely survived his final fire, suffering third degree burns and breaking several vertebrae after falling three stories when the top rung of the ladder melted. After a long convalescence, he rebuilt his life around his beloved wife Anne and their six sons. Charlie is survived by his grandchildren: Elizabeth and her parents Charles and Annie of Jamaica Plain; Audrey and Tara and their parents Michael and Christine of West Roxbury; Meaghann and Lauren and their parents Thomas and Kathy of Hyannis; Patrick and Matthew and their parents Patrick and Donna of Milton; Anne Louise and Hewitt and their parents John and Lissa of Brooklyn Heights, NY; Charlotte and her parents Timothy and Meg of Boston; and by his great granddaughter Flynn and her parents Meaghann and Jonas of Cotuit. Charlie was predeceased by Anne his first wife, and Theresa and Christine, his second and third wives, as well as his adored grandson, 1st Lieutenant Charles F. Kenney, USMC.
Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Chrysostom church at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in the Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Interment private.
