Obituary

Thomas E. Donovan Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was 84 years old.

Tom was born in Boston on June 15, 1931, a son of the late Thomas E. Donovan and Dorothy M. (Bevelaqua) Donovan. He grew up in Charlestown and attended St. Clement's Parochial School and St. Clement's High School in Medford. Tom enlisted into the United States Army on August 15, 1952 and served his country with honor and courage during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on August 18, 1954 with the rank of Corporal. Tom was a truck driver for Brockway-Smith Trucking Company for over 30 years and was a member of Teamster's Union Local #25 and Local #379.

Tom is the loving husband of 63 years to Joan E. (Cotter) Donovan. He is the beloved father of Thomas J. Donovan of Quincy, Joanne Todd and her husband Gene of Medford, Richard J. Donovan of Charlestown, Brian S. Donovan and his wife Maureen of Nashua, NH, and Elaine Green and her husband Mike of Stoneham. He is the loving Grampy to Thomas, Jillian, Katlin, Rebecca, Kelly, Michael, Paige, Brian, Eric, Michael, Elizabeth, Colleen, Christopher and his great-grandchildren Malachy, Michael, Madison, Jameson, Thomas and William. He is the beloved brother of the late Patricia Tuminelli and Marie Richard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Tom's visiting hours on Monday morning, December 28, 2015 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. His burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Tom’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
