Obituary

NATICK: Helen L. (McHugh) Jones, 78, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died on Sunday evening, December 13, 2015, at her Natick home. She was the loving wife of the late David R. Jones.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (LeRoy) McHugh. Helen was raised and educated in Newton, and joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1955. She trained as a nurse, stationed on Okinawa and in San Francisco during her four year tenure.

Helen and David married and settled in Washington State to raise their family. After his passing she relocated to Natick to be with her family. After years of lovingly dedicating all of her time and energy into raising her children, Helen cherished the role of grandmother to her ever-growing family. Gifted with a great sense of humor, Helen had an affinity for the ocean and enjoyed frequent visits to Gloucester.

She is survived by her three sons, David Jones and his wife Judy (Dalicandro) of Maynard, Thomas Jones and his wife Cindy (McInnis) of Pembroke, and Todd Jones and his wife Cheryl (Flaherty) of Natick; her daughter, Linda LeRoy of Bristol, RI; twelve grandchildren, Eric Olson, A.J. Kane, Brendon, Nicole, Korey, Declan, David, Callie, Caleb, Kaitryn, Madigan, and Fiona Jones; nine siblings, Katherine Long of NH, Dorothy MacGregor of Natick, Louise Hanscome of NH, Anita Lahey and Mary Ellen Fiorillo, both of Webster, Arthur McHugh, Jr. of FL, Michael McHugh of Dighton, James McHugh of Framingham, and Robert McHugh of SC; a cousin, Robert LeRoy of Bridgewater; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her long time companion, Fredd Hammond, and her brothers Theodore, William, and Joseph McHugh.

Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at the Natick Common, on Thursday, December 17th from 4–7PM. A service with military honors will close the evening.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston MA 02108 (https://nechv.thankyou4caring.org/give) would be appreciated.
