Obituary

Norman Edward Slack, age 86 of Methuen, MA, died Friday at the Prescott House, North Andover, MA.

He was born in Methuen, MA, son of the late Arthur and Mary (Ellis) Slack. He grew up and was educated in Methuen, where he was a lifelong resident, Norman served in the US Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class on the USS Mosopelia and the USS Nip Muc in Iceland.

Norman was a custodian for the Methuen Public Schools for 36 years, until his retirement in 1995. He held positions on the Methuen Redevelopment Authority and was a former elected town meeting member, who was proud to represent his district. He was a member of both St. Monica’s and St. Lucy’s Parish, where he looked forward to taking up the weekly collections. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Norman was a handyman, who loved to help others. He was an avid walker and enjoyed gardening sports, and his family pool. First and foremost he was a devoted family man, who’d want to be remembered as a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. There wasn’t a day that he didn’t say “Family is Everything”.

Norman was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Harriet (Greaves) Slack, a brother Arthur Slack, and his sisters Shirley Manock and Claire Slack.

He is survived by his daughter: Norma Cunningham of Salem, NH, Sons: Steven and his wife Kris Slack of Salem, NH, David and his wife Margaret Slack of Hampton, NH, and James and is wife Cheryl Slack of Methuen, MA. Grandchildren: Kristen Cunningham, Kelly and David Slack, Amanda Brooks, Courtney Slack, and Cameron Slack. Great Granddaughters: Gracyn Cunningham and Anna Rose Brooks. Sisters in Law: Barbara Slack and Marlene Reynolds.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 15th at 9 AM at St. Monica’s Church, Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. Calling hours will be held Monday, Dec. 14th from 4-7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St, Methuen, MA.
