Richard J. Rooney, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his home in Charlestown. He was 61 years old.
Richard was born in Boston on March 12, 1954, a son of the late James H. Rooney and Catherine E. (Connolly) Rooney. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1972. He furthered his education and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from North Shore Community College and received his Masters Degree in Sociology from Suffolk University where he also taught classes for a period of time. Richard dedicated his life to helping out people with addictions and worked many years as a Counselor with Catholic Charities.
Richard is the devoted brother of Catherine "Kay" Agri and her husband John, James "Jim" Rooney, retired Boston Police Officer John Rooney and his companion Christine McLaughlin, Joann Henderson and her late husband John, Karen Snow and her husband Michael and the late Claire Rooney. He is the loving uncle to Jonalyn Agri, Derek Agri, Clifton Agri, Owen Henderson, Sarah Henderson, Maxx Snow, Jake Snow and his 5 great-nieces. Dear friend of Alan Lee and Paul Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richard's Funeral Mass on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. His burial is private. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
