Mary Catherine (Melody) Powers, 100, of Medford died peacefully in her sleep on December 6, 2015 in Provincetown, MA where she was under the loving care of her granddaughter, Kerry McCarthy Cox. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Powers and mother of Edward J. Powers Jr. (Marilyn) of Medford, Maryellen McCarthy (Allan) of Medford, Ruth M. Tansey of Woburn, Kathleen A. Brady (Patrick) of Villa Hills, Kentucky and Dr. Richard E. Powers (Mimi) of Mountain Brook, Alabama. Mary also leaves seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Born in Boston on September 3, 1915, Mary was the daughter of the late John J. and Helen (Davis) Melody. Mary and Edward moved to Medford Hillside in 1943 to raise their family and to Edgewood, Kentucky in 1968 where they lived for many years. Mary returned to Medford in 1997. There are no visiting hours but please join us in a celebration of Mary’s life at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Raphael Church, 514 High Street, West Medford on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 9:30AM. Interment will be privately held.
