Obituary

Mrs. Bernice A. (Mundy) Haggerty, a long time resident of Andover, formerly of Melrose and beloved wife of the late Franklin K. Haggerty, passed away at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill surrounded by her daughters, on Sunday, December 6, 2015. She was 93 years old. Born in Malden, MA, on March 31, 1922, she was the beloved daughter of the late John W. and Bridget A. (Landry) Mundy. Bernice was a civic minded woman who loved to cast her vote in every election, was an active member of the Democratic Town Committee and served on the John F. Kennedy State Election Committee. She was an active member of the Andover Historical Society, serving as a board member and committee chairman. She loved attending Andover events and adding Andover postcards to her extensive collection. She was a member of the Red Hat Club, the Shawsheen Village Women's Club, the Ballardvale Historic Commission, the Ballardvale Homemakers Club, the Ballardvale Village Improvement Committee and the Bradlee School and South School PTA. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Bernice is survived by her three daughters; Joan V. Haggerty and Michael Fitzsimmons of Lowell, Jerilyn F. and her husband, Thomas S. Marjerison, III of Andover and Nancy L. and her husband, Thomas Varnum of North Andover and Jackson, New Hampshire, Grandchildren; Valerie J. Haggerty-Silva, Michael J. Haggerty, Jennifer K. Poole, Thomas S. Marjerison, IV and Kyle L. Semenetz, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Robert W. Haggerty and grandson, Robert W. Haggerty, Jr.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Calling hours will be held at the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 No. Main Street, Andover, on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bernice may be made to the Andover Historical Society, 97 Main Street, Andover MA 01810 or to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830.
